I went to Shanghai, China, in April 2007 and I needed to get a Visa. It's good for travel to China 2 times. I think there were other options.

If we are really considering going to OZ for a visit the end of this year we should start looking for a visa farely soon. I got this info below from the web:

The Tourist Visa (ETA) is valid for 12 months from the date it is granted.
You are permitted multiple stays of up to 3 months over the 12 month period.
Applicants must be outside Australia to apply.

You are NOT permitted to work on this visa.
You can study in Australia on an Australia Tourist Visa (ETA) as long as the course you undertake does not exceed more than 3 months in length.

For the working holiday is something we may really consider; however, i may be screwed on this one because of the requirements. See below

The cost of the Australian Working Holiday visa is £133

The Australian Working Holiday visa offers young travellers the opportunity to spend a year travelling around Australia, whilst supplementing their funds through temporary or casual work. (Please note, You cannot work for one employer for more than six months)

To apply for an Australian Working Holiday visa you must:

Hold a valid passport for your entire trip.
Be outside Australia
Be aged between 18-30 years old.
Have no dependant children.
Have not entered Australia on a WHV before.
Be entering Australia for a holiday, any work carried out should be to support yourself in funding your trip.
Hold a passport from one of the following countries
United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland,
Canada, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Republic of Korea, Sweden
When entering Australia you might be asked to provide evidence of an onward ticket or sufficient funds to purchase one, as well as funds to support yourself for the first part of your stay.

or we can also wing it. when i first went to OZ and was checking in the airport i didnt know i had to get a visa i thought it was automatic. The airlines did not grant me access to the gate until i had a visa. It was a simple phone call then i ended up getting a visa right there at the aiport within ten minutes. I forgot who i spoke with but united was the one who dialed the number.
So we can try it this way, it beats planning.

Aubs that's great. What was the name of that site again that had all of the temporary working holiday jobs? Can people from the US do it? I thought it was just lucky people from UK, Australia, Canada, etc. (countries you listed) Do you know?

Found some info on visa requirements on rountheworldflights.com but it's for UK/EU, still useful.
